What it does

These flat cables carry the serial link between the control board and each hashboard. Work descends: block header, target, and the nonce range this board is responsible for. Results ascend: the rare nonce that produced a hash under target, plus the temperature and chip count telemetry the controller reports upstream.

There is no power on these lines and almost no current. They are pure signal, which is exactly why they are fragile. A ribbon that is creased, seated crooked, or run alongside the 12 V loom will pick up noise and start corrupting frames, and corrupted frames look like a hashboard producing hardware errors.

This is the classic misdiagnosis in mining. A machine reporting a failing chain very often has a two dollar cable problem, and people replace the board first.
